Computer Operational Systems
During all these years, computers have been evolving in an amazing and fascinating way that it seems it will never stop because of the incredible technology we live. Due to this computer evolution, computer companies have had the need to be create new hardwares and softwares to be competitive and updating with this increase in technology, but not only the software companies, people have been affected about this technological phenomenon too. Even though this is true, there are some people who are still using old versions of operational systems which are not updated like the following ones: Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows Millennium.
The Window 95 Operational System was released in August 24, 1995 by Microsoft Corporation as a conventional computer system. Its creator was Bill Gates, who is is the co-founder, chairman, and chief software architect of Microsoft Corporation. Gates explained that he was not sure that this operational system would work because it was the first project of this company. Windows 95 Operational System is a direct result of combining Microsoft's formerly separate MS-DOS and Windows products. After earlier Windows for Workgroups 3.11, Windows 95 was the second in that line without support for older, 16-bit x86 processors, thus requiring an Intel 80386 or compatible processor running in protected mode. It featured significant improvements to the graphical user interface GUI and underlying workings, including the desktop and Start Menu, support for 255-character mixed-case long filenames and preemptively-multitasked protected-mode 32-bit applications. It brings new characteristics that users can take advantages of to do things that could not be done before with previous operational systems which were simples and monochromatics. It also shows a graphic interface which allows to run two or more programs at the same time. Other characteristics are that it gives the possibility to type and print documents, watch videos, listen to music from a CD, save pictures, etc. Windows 95 has been released on both floppy disks and on CD-ROM, as some computers at the time did not feature the CD-ROM capability. The floppy disk version of Windows 95 is featured on 13 floppy disks, excluding the boot disk and additional software that some releases might have featured, such as Internet Explorer being bundled with the Windows 95 software as well.
Another operational system, the Windows 98, released in June 24,1998 by Microsoft Corporation, is very alike to the previous system o three years ago. This new operating system was essentially an updated version of Windows 95, and like that earlier version, it was a hybrid 16-bit/32-bit product. Among its features were better AGP support, functional USB drivers, and support for multiple monitors and WebTV. It also brings a new graphic interface which gives users an easier way to use it. This operational system has a particular characteristic that provides a help guide to users to learn more about it and how can they use it. The operating system Microsoft Windows 98, offers a greater quality for the computer, including better yield of the system and a simpler maintenance. During the pasts two years and means from the Windows 95 launching, Microsoft has received a pile of suggestions of his users and has worked to incorporate and to innovate much being based on his ideas. Windows 98 has more than 3,000 improvements than they significantly increase the yield of the computer and provide with one better experience when using it.
The Window Millennium System released in September, 14, 2000 by the same company mentioned before brings many characteristics than the previous two systems did not have. As successor to Windows 95 and Windows 98, Windows Millennium mainly comprised relatively small upgrades such as Internet Explorer 5.5. It also bundled Windows Media Player 7, which was meant to rival the media player the Real Player, and included the new Movie Maker software, which provided basic video editing and was designed to be easy for home users. Both of this programs, Internet Explorer 5.5 and Windows Media Player 7 could also be downloaded for free from the Internet for earlier versions of Windows. Microsoft also updated the GUI in Windows Me with features that were first introduced in Windows 2000. Windows Millennium is not very different from Windows 98. There are some minor differences in networking protocols and locations of certain features between the two operating systems. Newer multimedia enhancements, easier home networking, enhanced stability, and new Internet tools are among the additions Windows Millennium will provide over Windows 98.
In conclusion, the computer operational systems have evolved during the years, so have the computers. People who have computers should be aware and updated of the new versions of systems that are available nowadays and also be prepared for the coming changes in technology that will make our lives easier.
